Clinical Associate Professor of Law, Director of Family Violence Clinic, Director of Public Interest Programs

Bio

Professor McTear joined the law school faculty in 2013. She teaches and supervises the Family Violence Clinic, as well as, Field Placements and other professional development courses.  Professor McTear is the Director of the Faulkner Law Public Interest Program and the faculty advisor for Jones Public Interest Law Foundation.

Prior to joining the law school faculty, Professor McTear was a staff attorney for Legal Services Alabama’s Montgomery Office, where she represented victims of domestic violence in civil matters in Montgomery and 8 of the surrounding counties.  Beginning in October 2010, Professor McTear was an on-site partner at OnePlace Family Justice Center through LSA and provided the civil legal component of the Center’s holistic services model for victims of domestic violence.  She received the Family Sunshine Center’s Justice for Victims Award in 2011.

Professor McTear is admitted to the Alabama State Bar and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama.  She is a member of the Montgomery County Bar Association.  She is a past President of the MCBA Women’s Section and the current Secretary of the Montgomery County Law Foundation.  She sits on the Board of Directors of Alabama Appleseed Center for Law and Justice and of Women of Refined Gold, Inc.

Professor McTear is active in the community through her church and the Junior League of Montgomery.
