
Judge Dee Dee Calhoon was sworn in as Circuit Judge in January 2025 after a successful election. She is a graduate of Jones School of Law’s first provisionally accredited class, finishing school in December 2006 and receiving her bar results April 27, 2007 at age 33.
She attended night classes three nights per week while working full time at Beasley, Allen through her first two years of law school and then at the US Attorney’s Office through graduation and licensure. She has excelled in her legal career as an Assistant United States Attorney, owner of her own law office, and now as Circuit Judge.
Judge DeAnne “DeeDee” Marie Calhoon (Smith) was sworn in for the newly created Circuit Judge seat within the 19th Judicial Circuit, Place 4, by public investiture at the Autauga County Courthouse in Prattville, Alabama on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. This seat primarily focuses on family law matters within Autauga, Elmore, and Chilton Counties. Judge Calhoon was surrounded by her husband, children, grandchildren, parents, various friends, family, colleagues, and a host of fellow judges, from the Federal Court, plus the State Court within the Circuit, District, and Municipal levels.
Judge Calhoon expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all who attended for the opportunity to serve this Circuit. Within her comments she reflected, “Families are the most important aspect of our community. As 19th Circuit Judge, I vow to treat every family that comes before me with respect and will do my best to help them be successful – whatever that looks like for that particular family.”
