MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner University’s Jones School of Law, the Blackstone and Burke Center for Law and Liberty and the national Intercollegiate Studies Institute together are hosting a statewide, week-long conference for undergraduates from Sunday, June 2 to Friday, June 7. Students from all local and state universities are invited to participate.

There is no cost to participate. Housing and meals on Faulkner’s Montgomery campus will be provided. Only the first 40 students who register will be able to attend.

The conference, themed, A Tale of Five Cities, will explore the roots of American order and ask the question, “What holds America together?” Is it the abundance of natural resources and navigable waterways conducive to economic prosperity? Our form of government, carefully designed to preserve the rights of its citizens to life, liberty, and property? The fundamental values of personal responsibility, moral order, and the rule of law? Or something else?

The conference will focus on Russell Kirk’s, Roots of American Order as a guide to answering these questions.

Students will be provided copies of Kirk’s book and each day of the week will be devoted to a different period covered in that book.  Keynote speakers throughout the week will be Chief Justice Tom Parker of the Alabama Supreme Court and Wilfred McClay, who holds the G.T. and Libby Blankenship Chair in the History of Liberty at the University of Oklahoma.

The conference is made possible through grants and the Intercollegiate Studies Institute and the Institute for Humane Studies.

WHEN: June 2 – June 7. The conference will kick off on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. with a “Get to Know You” dinner in Downtown Montgomery.

WHERE: Faulkner University Montgomery campus, 5345 Atlanta Hwy., Montgomery, Ala. 36109.

WHO: Alabama university undergraduate students
