The staff in our Career Development Office relishes the opportunity to assist you in your legal studies and in aiding you in your future career as an attorney. We support you with interviews for internships and employment in your chosen field of practice from the large law firms to non-traditional J.D. Advantage positions.

Our students possess a competitive edge in the legal marketplace since they all enter our law school either with a wide variety of work experiences or come from undergraduate studies with scholastic records of giving extra effort that sets them apart from other law students at other law schools. This trait provides them each with the ability to study hard while in law school and to pass the bar examination in their chosen states. It also ultimately adds to their marketability for receiving internships and enhances their chance for success in their chosen field of practice.

Career Development Resources

Counseling

The CDO is available throughout the year for one-on-one counseling by appointment and on a walk-in basis. During scheduled appointments, the CDO can review resumes, cover letters, career plans and job search strategies. and counsel students on career-related or law school-related resources.

Skills Workshops

Skills workshops focus on teaching skills such as resume drafting, interviewing skills, application to federal clerkships, networking and job searching. Each skills workshop is designed to teach law students valuable professional skills.

Informational Seminars

The CDO conducts a series of educational programs every fall and spring semester. Speakers from a variety of legal (and non-legal) practice areas and backgrounds speak to the students about their relevant experience and knowledge. Previous seminars have included Federal Magistrate Judges, Circuit Judges, civil attorneys and criminal defense attorneys. We have also hosted attorneys in J.D. Advantage positions for panel discussions.

Networking Events

Each year a variety of networking events are held to connect students with alumni and other practicing attorneys. Students are also able to participate in local bar meetings and gatherings from legal groups and associations.

Mentor Program

The 1L Mentoring Program pairs practicing attorneys both in the Montgomery County area and with attorneys in the students’ hometowns for an opportunity to observe a practicing attorney to learn first-hand what an attorney does on a typical day. The program is sponsored by the Montgomery County Bar Association and the program encourages all 1L students to become active in the Montgomery County as well as the Alabama State Bar as Young Lawyers.

Online Job Postings
